There are a wide variety of opinions
regarding the role the mare
plays in the characteristics of her offspring.
Regardless of whether you believe the mare contributes 60% or 80%,
long-time breeders all agree that the contribution of the mare is significant
and should not be discounted. Our
mares have been carefully chosen based primarily on the following attributes:
temperament, intelligence/trainability, athleticism/movement, conformation and
overall presence. We do not believe
that the broodmare herd should be comprised of mares who have washed out of
their training program and have been delegated to producing foals in order to
“earn their keep”.
The following mares have proven their worth as
exceptional producers and each has unique and valuable attributes to offer.
We are proud to own special mares of this caliber and, most importantly,
would trust any of them with our grandchildren.
Their temperament is that nice.
May we present . . .

Chantilly
Lace
|
 |
 |
 |
|
Lacey is a 2002 Friesian/thoroughbred cross that has
recently become one of our favorite riding mares. She is super sweet and would rather live in our house than
outside with the other mares. Her size
of 16.3 makes her a perfect match for Alex and her black color guarantees that
her Alex foals will be black. The
Friesian influence is easy to see in her luxurious mane and tail and large
frame. Her thoroughbred dam was one
of the nicest thoroughbred mares I have ever seen and she contributed a sleeker,
slightly more refined body type and greater endurance and stamina.
As a result, Lacey is a perfect cross with the larger size we like, the
beautiful black color, thick long mane and tail, and absolutely loves attention.
Her movement has to be seen to be believed by
merging grace with power and agility. The
result is a presence that is captivating.
Lacey will be bred to Alex in 2008 and her 2009 foal will be for sale.
The photos below are her 2007 colt.

Bobbie Murphy
|
 |
 |
 |
|
Bobbie
Murphy is a 1990, black 16.1
hand, thoroughbred mare that is one of our favorites because she is so sweet and
easy to work with. We have liked her offspring so much that we have tried to
keep them all! She had one of her nicest colts in 2007 and his owner is
thrilled with him. We held back her 2005 colt because we really like him,
but have since reluctantly decided to part with him. Take a look at
him on our Sales page. Since she is 17, she will probably only have one more
foal (in 2009) before she is retired, so don't wait to help yourself to one of
her nice offspring.
Bobbie will be bred to Alex in 2008 and her 2009 foal will
probably be for sale. The photos below are her previous foals.

Sterling Magnolia
|
 |
 |
 |
|
Sterling Magnolia is a 1993, 15.1 hand,
blue roan quarter horse mare with a show stopping presence. These photos don't
begin to do her justice. Her quarter horse foals have done very well at the
quarter horse futurities. All of her Friesian cross foals have been a stunning
blue roan with muscular bodies and surprisingly fancy movement! They have been
quick to sell, so let us know if you would like to reserve her '09 foal.
May 3, 2008 UPDATE: Maggie is confirmed in foal
to Alex and her March, 2009 foal is available in utero.
See the Sales List page for more information.
The photos below are her previous Friesian cross foals.

Docs Blue Chex DR

|
Docs Blue
Chex Dr (Sox) is a 1998, 16 hand, blue roan appendix quarter horse mare.
Sox was broke to ride, but due to an unfortunate accident, was retired at an
early age. She is very quiet, nice to handle and has no conformation faults.
She has blessed us with exceptional foals including two blue roan fillies in a
row!
May 3, 2008 UPDATE: Sox is confirmed in foal to
Alex and her March, 2009 foal is available in utero.
See the Sales List page for information.

Purebred Shire Mares
|
 |
 |
 |
|
In 2007 we embarked on a new
venture with the purchase of three premium Shire mares! We have always
been admirers of the draft breed and, after exploring the various breeds, chose
the Shire as the breed we wanted to become involved with. The birth of the
first Prairie Wind purebred Shire foal in June of '07 was an exciting event!
These mares are extremely well bred and have great conformation and disposition.
We are enjoying learning more about this fascinating breed and are grateful to
Clark and June Jensen for allowing us to acquire these nice mares.
Candice is in foal to Diplomat, a purebred Shire stallion,
for an August, '08
foal. Primera has been bred to Jensen's nice Shire stallion
,Monte, for a late March, '09 foal and Wandamere Jodie has been bred to a Gypsy stallion for an '09 Drum
foal. Candice will be bred back to Diplomat,
for an '09 Shire foal. Please see our Stallions page for photos of these
stallions. The photos below are Jodie's '07 Shire foal.
